“From the first wave to the top level: how can we grow the sport of surfing in Gironde?”

To mark the 45th edition of the Caraïbos Lacanau Pro, Banque Populaire is organising two ‘Café Surf’ events – 45-minute round-table discussions open to the public in the VIP Area – to engage with the key figures who bring surfing to life in the Gironde and across the industry.

This first session focuses on the practice and development of surfing in the Gironde region. Hosted by Agathe Vergnaud (BPACA), elle réunit Géraldine Gion, surfeuse locale, Laurent Rondi pour le Comité Surf Gironde et Nicolas Lesueur pour le Lacanau Surf Club.

Together, they will discuss the growth of the sport in Gironde, the role of young people and the passing on of skills, the increasing participation of women and inclusion in the sport, the health benefits of surfing, and the path from talent identification to elite-level competition – without shying away from the issue of coastal conservation in the face of growing visitor numbers.
